2003 Vintage

Cooler weather in mid-February that followed the rains provided good ripening conditions.
Low yields and cool temperatures during ripening allowed the fruit to develop excellent flavours whilst retaining acidity.

The cool conditions in the spring of 2001 produced low fruitfulness that resulted in low bunch numbers and sizes for the 2003 vintage and this enabled the vines to develop excellent flavours, while retaining acidity, despite the warm and extremely dry conditions that followed throughout spring and summer.

Vintage in the Adelaide Hills was very early and compressed, with most fruit coming into the winery within the two weeks from late March to early April.

2002 Vintage

Careful vineyard maintenance and yield management were critical in the Adelaide Hills in 2002. The very cool spring and summer conditions were relieved to an extent by the long Indian summer, but there is no doubt the vintage was a challenge in cool-climate regions such as the Adelaide Hills. The low yielding, well maintained company vineyards ripened perfectly and produced a crop that whilst reduced in size was of excellent quality.

White varieties benefited from an autumn that was characterised by warm days, enabling the development of depth and ripeness of flavour and cool nights, which locked in crisp natural acidity and refined aromatics. Sauvignon Blanc is outstanding with pronounced cool climate varietal characters and a fine acid backbone.

2001 Vintage

The early season was excellent, with good growth, and flowering was successful for all varieties except cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Vine development in the Hills is later than in the warmer, lower altitude areas and the January heat affected the vines less. Also, the March rains arrived at a less critical time.

The Sauvignon Blanc crop was very good indeed producing wines with flavour and elegance. The bulk of this fruit will be used in Rosemount Diamond Label Sauvignon Blanc.
